The Vagabond by Gossamer Gear is a small, light daypack for the day trip and the city, which is held in fine ultralight design.
Gossamer Gear is an American equipment factory, which is especially in the ultralight scene a household name. In addition to rucksacks, they also produce tents, shelters and accessories. As a cottage I would not call them any more, but they are still small compared to other brands. Their slogan "take less, do more" is indicative of the approach to the design of their equipment. The fire was founded in 1997 by Glen Van Peski after a backpacking trip with his son. The backpacks available to him were too heavy, so he invented the backpack "new", with lighter materials and fabrics, which are still 20 years later, especially for Gossamer Gear.
The Vagabond is in the style of its larger and more well-known siblings like the Mariposa or the gorilla. Simples Design with a lot of functionality is also the 23 liter small and 467g heavy Vagabond in the foreground, as the only bauble stand out the two handles, with which you can wear the backpack also comfortable as a shopping bag.
Special features include the large, elastic mesh pocket on the front, but also the smaller elastic pockets on the shoulder straps. Also on the sides are bags for water bottles or the umbrella.
A large main compartment with about 23 liters capacity and an inside pocket for the hydration system or the laptop offers space for the day tour or the office stuff. Inside at the front there is another, small and zippered pocket for small items. This bag opposite, on the outside front, there is another zippered pocket with key ring and pen loop. With the two handles on the top of the backpack, it can be worn easily and conveniently like a shopping bag.
The two elastic pockets on the sides are big enough even for large bottles or a thermos, and deep enough that even the umbrella does not fall out. In addition, one could still secure this with the laterally extending compression straps.
Two rows of mini-daisychains were processed in the front, with the large mesh pocket in between. There is room for everything that you want to have quick access to. Even the wet umbrella or the rain jacket can be stuffed here.
Without bags on the shoulder straps, I can not stand it anymore, here you can find the smartphone and the sunglasses, if it's sporty sometimes even the drinking bottle with a proboscis and the energy bar.

With 23 liters, the Vagabond is a good size for the city and for day trips. Loved features like the mesh pocket on the front and on the shoulder strap make it my favorite pack. Compared to other backpacks of this size class, it is still light and comfortable despite the comparatively less padded carrying system. The shoulder straps are very wide, so the weight is distributed evenly. However, with a “slippery” jacket, I had the feeling that I was slowly walking outside and sliding off my shoulders. After I closed the chest strap, it was of course better - and the backpack was even more comfortable. Maybe I should just train a wider cross 😉
The handles are really handy when shopping and give the backpack its special touch. All in all a successful pack, which gives me much pleasure.
