The Ebnerjoch is located in the Rofan at the southern end of the Achensee and above the village of Eben. Coming from the car park, follow the yellow hiking signs towards Ebnerjoch. Follow a broad path of the cross to a panoramic board of the Astenau Alm, here begins a shady forest path with many hairpin bends up to the Astenaualm. The trail always becomes steeper, leads through a mighty mountain pine forest to the turnoff to Hubersteig.
Here we can choose between a very steep path straight ahead or a lighter track on the left. We choose the easier trail, which initially follows the Hubersteig and then keeps right until the summit. We are moving quickly, the deep blue sky shines on us and we are looking forward to the summit view. At half past ten, one of these "overfed" couples, who sprinted down the summit again on Sunday mornings, is already approaching us.
Shortly after eleven we are at the summit and are amazed by the 360 degree panorama. I did not know how and where to sit, simply because every look had its own special features. On the one hand, the deep blue Achensee, south to the countless mountains in the direction of Italy in the Zillertal and the broad Inn Valley or directly on the opposite rock face.
Up here you could stand it really well and we spent a long summit break.
On these last almost hot autumn days you have to enjoy the sun as long as possible. Like the mouse from the story, which stores the heat for the winter in autumn, to be able to rave about it on cold days and has warm, warm thoughts.
You can descend the same way back or a more varied round trip over the Hubersteig. For this, follow the signs at the first crossroads on the right to Hubersteig and cross a steep kar with large avalanche barriers. Now always down through a Schuttkare, which is already covered with meter-high snow at this time. Here we are on the way through the partially waist deep snow and much slower on the way and the path is quite beautiful ...
Then it goes through slender bushes steeply downhill to meadow strip and through a longer piece of forest. Only here in the forest does the snow stop. You pass an uncultivated alpine hut and then reach a broader forest path to the Buchauer Alm. This probably only opens in the ski business with the first winter visitors. In serpentines it goes down, past a small chairlift to the junction on the forest trail "Notburga Church". We follow this trail slightly downwards towards the south, until we get back to the broad crossroads of the ascent. <es geht kurz links weiter bis zur bekannten Panoramatafel und danach wieder rechts zurück zum Parkplatz.
