The Drachenstich Rundweg is a relatively short walk of about 6 kilometers, which is characterized by the versatility of the Landscape around Murnau am Staffelsee leads. On your way, you can roam the Murnau Moos, the glacial ridge on which Murnau lies, and finally the Staffelsee.

The official start is in the spa park, but we start below it at the intersection where there is Münter-Haus goes up. Especially for art-interested hikers this beautiful little house is already the first highlight, lived and worked here but Gabriele Münter and Wassily Kandinsky. Thanks to the two and the remaining artists of the Blue Riders, Murnau became the epicenter of 20th century modern art.

For us it goes on through the Kottmüller Ave., If you like, you can pay a visit to the Lourdesgrotte, the turnoff to the left into the romantic gorge is signposted right at the beginning of the avenue. The Kottmüller Allee was built in the time of summer vacationers, as in Murnau already colorful bustle prevailed. Just as it goes downhill after the avenue in the direction of Moos and Ähndl, a narrow path branches off to the right through two narrow trees. Again and again, the almost postcard-like view of the moss and the surrounding mountain ranges of Zugspitze, Ammergebirge and Estergebirge can be seen.

A few meters further we come to Asam-point, Seen from here, three churches lined up on a straight line, crowned by the summit cross of the Rauheck.

Shortly thereafter, we come across the eponymous Drachenstich, Murnau's heraldic animal is the lindworm, and it is here, at the kite engraving, that the legend begins with the lindworm and some unfortunate virgins.

Steep, the steps pull up on the ridge. The classic Drachenstich trail crosses above the road to Bad Kohlgrub, then through the forest to the left Clinic Hochried pull down and hit the bottom of the Staffelsee. However, we extend the dragon's stitch a bit and continue to the left in the direction Berggeist, Only then we cross the road and go through the beautiful forest down to the lake.

Always Shore of the Staffelsee along, paying attention to the rain of foot and bicycle traffic, we walk to bay of pigs and to the local kiosk. Officially, the small bay is called "Murnauer Bucht". However, there were in earlier times probably more nude bathing access, so then came the name pig bay.

After a little refreshment at the newly designed kiosk in 2019 we walk along the road up to the intersection, cross it and continue to the spa park and thus back to the starting point of this beautiful walk.

Finally, I would like to quote a quotation, which was also written in Murnau:

I have only two things to write against, that's stupidity and a lie. And two things for which I enter, that is the reason and the sincerity.
